Mrs. Catharine Mears "Kitty" Grey, 98, wife of thirty-three years to the late Walter Rhodes Grey, of Poplar Cove, Onancock, VA, passed away at her residence on Sunday, February 7, 2010.
Born and reared at Poplar Cove, Mrs. Grey was the daughter of the late Harvey C. Mears and Maude Lewis Mears. She was a lifelong member of Market Street United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women and the Dora Armstrong Circle.
After graduating from Onancock High School, she attended Strayer-Bryant and Stratton College where she was a 1932 graduate. After graduation, Mrs. Grey worked in the law offices of Ames and Ames and George L. Doughty. She was legal secretary to Mr. Stewart K. Powell for eight years. Later she was employed by the Eastern Shore News and Eastern Shore Printers, where she worked twelve years.
Mrs. Grey is survived by two daughters, Catharine Grey Walters of Hampton, VA, and Emily Mears Grey of Poplar Cove; three grandchildren, Lisa Walters Frank and her husband Mark of Washington State, Leslie Walters Gaskell and her husband Chris of Leesburg, VA, and Kyle Walters of Santa Cruz, CA; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Market Street United Methodist Church on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 2:00 with the Reverend Robert Chapman officiating. Interment will be private in the Fairview Lawn Cemetery.
